The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has reported that a significant disturbance occurred in Ghana’s National Interconnected Transmission System during the early hours of Wednesday, July 29, resulting in extensive electricity supply interruptions.
In a statement, GRIDCo indicated that the disturbance took place around 3:11 a.m., leading to the simultaneous tripping of multiple generating plants throughout the national power system.
The company noted that this incident caused disruptions in electricity supply across various regions of the country.
GRIDCo emphasized that it promptly initiated its established system restoration protocols, with engineers and system operators collaborating continuously with other stakeholders in the power sector to restore electricity to affected customers as swiftly and safely as possible.
Additionally, the transmission company revealed that a thorough technical investigation has commenced to ascertain the exact cause of the system disturbance.
“GRIDCo has activated its established system restoration procedures. Our engineers and system operators are working continuously, in close collaboration with power sector stakeholders, to restore power within the shortest time possible without compromising safety,” the statement read.
The company expressed its apologies for the inconvenience caused and extended gratitude to the public for their patience and understanding during the ongoing restoration efforts.
GRIDCo assured customers that further updates would be communicated as more information becomes available.
