President John Mahama has directed the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council and the Ministry of Gender to engage with banks regarding the extension of loan repayment periods for individuals impacted by the Adum Blue Light Arena fire.
The Regional Coordinating Council is currently compiling a list of those who owe money to banks in order to provide assistance.
“Some individuals have expressed concerns about their bankers pressuring them for loan repayments. I have communicated this to the President, who has requested that we gather information on the traders and their respective bankers to understand the loans they have taken out and facilitate intervention. We hope the banks will allow them some leeway while we explore the best ways to assist them in repaying their loans,” he stated.
The Minister further noted, “The CEO of MASLOC and the Gender Minister have visited. The Gender Minister showed interest in the gender-specific database we have compiled, and I will provide that information to her by Wednesday, as well as to MASLOC, so they can determine how best to assist.”
According to data from the National Disaster Management Organisation, approximately 2,900 individuals were affected by the Adum fire.

Of this number, 1,500 individuals report being unable to provide food for themselves, necessitating food assistance.
“It was based on this report that the Interior Minister, Hon. Mubarak Muntaka, provided rice and oil. We have decided that those in need who have come forward should still have access to these supplies through NADMO,” he explained.
Dr. Amoakohene highlighted, “We have successfully registered most, if not all, of the traders, based on their business operations, ensuring that all incoming support will be directed according to the data collected to address specific needs.”
Additionally, eight individuals have been referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for psychological support.
