Transport Minister Joseph Bukari Nikpe has assured the citizens of Ghana that transport fares will remain stable for the time being, despite the recent decline in fuel prices.
This assurance comes in response to increasing public demands for fare reductions, especially following earlier warnings from transport unions about potential fare hikes during periods of rising fuel costs.
In addressing the issue, Mr. Nikpe stated that the Ministry is actively engaging with transport unions and operators, emphasizing that any changes to fares are determined by a well-defined formula.
“I maintain regular communication with the unions and transport operators. We have a systematic approach for adjusting prices, and we have not reached that point yet,” he remarked.
The Minister highlighted the significance of collaboration with stakeholders to ensure stability within the transport sector, reassuring passengers that fares will remain unchanged for the foreseeable future.
“We are in close contact. We are collaborating effectively, and Ghanaians can be confident that fares will remain steady for a while before any adjustments are considered,” Mr. Nikpe further stated.
The Ministry’s position seeks to strike a balance between providing relief to commuters and ensuring the operational viability of transport operators, as discussions regarding potential fare adjustments continue.
