Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has confirmed that Gifty Oware Mensah, the former Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Authority (NSA), has been released after fulfilling the GH¢10 million bail requirement set by the court.
In an interview on Wednesday, November 12, Haruna revealed that Osei Assibey Antwi, the former Executive Director of the NSA, has not yet satisfied the GH¢800 million bail condition and thus remains in custody.
“Madam Gifty Oware met the bail condition yesterday, and she has been released; however, her superior is still in custody. 800 million, what sort of bail condition is that?”
Gifty Oware has pleaded not guilty to charges related to causing a financial loss exceeding GH¢38 million to the state. She appeared before the Accra High Court on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, where she faced five counts, including willfully causing financial loss to the state, theft, money laundering, and misuse of public office for personal gain.
Prosecutors claim that during her time in office, Mrs. Oware Mensah created approximately 9,934 fictitious National Service personnel, unlawfully benefiting from the monthly allowances allocated to these ghost names.
The alleged misconduct is reported to have resulted in government losses surpassing GH¢38 million.
