The Government of Ghana has introduced a new visa policy that will allow applications to be processed within a maximum of five working days, significantly shortening the previous timeframe of 4 to 6 weeks.
In announcing this policy, Minister for Foreign Affairs Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa indicated that the directive is effective immediately and aims to enhance Ghana’s status as a leading destination for tourism, business, and investment in Africa.
The Ministry also noted in a Facebook post that sufficient measures have been implemented at diplomatic missions to substantially reduce the duration of visa processing.
The newly implemented visa policy is effective immediately.
The Minister stated that systems have been established in Ghana’s diplomatic missions globally to facilitate the effective and efficient execution of the expedited regime. This initiative is a response to President John Dramani Mahama’s commitment made on January 7, 2025, declaring that ‘Ghana is open for business.’
The Foreign Minister emphasized that this policy translates that vision into action by eliminating enduring bureaucratic obstacles that have hindered travelers and investors.
As the Foreign Minister, I am dedicated to establishing Ghana as the prime choice for investors and tourists by enhancing the country’s competitiveness and reducing bureaucratic obstacles,” stated Mr. Ablakwa. The Ministry, however, clarified that the revised timeline does not ensure automatic approval.
“A determination regarding eligibility for a Ghanaian visa will be made within five working days,” the statement noted.
This expedited policy aims to enhance tourism, draw foreign direct investment, and foster increased interaction with the Ghanaian diaspora. “Ghana is genuinely open for business. We invite you to experience the Black Star,” the Minister concluded.
