Operators of the tricycle in the country popularly known as pragya are appealing to the Nana Addo led Npp government to as a matter of urgency approve it activities to run as a fully fledged commercialized transport association.
This comes in the wake of a caution statement issued last week by the transport ministry directly all tricycle users to avoid using main highways to prevent accidents on our major roads. Speaking on Viaion1fm mid-morning show with Frank Breton Fuckenberg, they said their operations if legalized will go a long way to facilitate their movements of goods and services in the country and also end what they allege maltreatment been meted out to them by them Ghana Police Service.
According to some who spoke on condition of unanimonsity at Vision1fm, said the police officers at times claims to have come from either Atomic, Mile 7, Tesano or headquarters. A situation they claim is having negative effect on their sales. They stated how some officers have taken advantage of the fact that their activities still remain illegal in the country and over charging them when caught. Even though our machines are licensed with intact insurance and valued road worthy, they still find means of draining us financially whether you have a driving licence or not. They sometimes threaten us with appearing before a court of competentjurisdiction .
Meanwhilen, the drivers claim that the intervention of the tricycle is timely since it has come to save a situation of unemployment among the youth, expecially those who where e4ngaged in galamsey. They however pledged to abide any any rules and regulation the law states and therefore appealed to the president through the ministry of transport to consider legalising their operations.
