The Minister of Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has stated that the government is dedicated to the Petroleum Hub Project, which he describes as a fundamental element of Ghana’s future energy and economic transformation.
John Jinapor made these comments during an official visit to the head office of the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation (PHDC) in Accra on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, as part of his familiarization tour of the agencies under the Ministry.
He praised the Corporation for its ongoing initiatives to establish Ghana as a competitive destination for energy investment, emphasizing that the Petroleum Hub is one of the nation’s most ambitious strategic projects within the petroleum value chain.
“The Petroleum Hub is not merely an infrastructure initiative — it represents a bold vision aimed at attracting significant global investment, generating employment, and anchoring Ghana’s transition to a value-driven energy economy,” Jinapor remarked.
The Minister assured the management and staff of the government’s complete support in fulfilling the project’s mandate and encouraged them to uphold professionalism, innovation, and impartiality in their endeavors. He also indicated the possibility of further stakeholder engagements to refine implementation strategies and ensure long-term viability.
In welcoming the Minister, Acting CEO of PHDC, Dr. Toni Aubynn, expressed gratitude for the visit and reiterated the Corporation’s commitment to advancing the project. He underscored the transformative potential of the Petroleum Hub, drawing comparisons with global success stories such as Singapore, the Netherlands, and Malaysia, where similar hubs have facilitated large-scale job creation and industrial development.
“Malaysia’s hub generated over 80,000 jobs in its initial phase alone — Ghana has the potential to achieve an even greater impact, particularly for the youth of Jomoro and beyond,” Dr. Aubynn remarked.
Deputy CEO for Operations and Technical, Mr. Onasis Rosely, is also committed to making significant advancements prior to the upcoming engagement, while Ms. Halimatu Sadia Abdulai, Deputy CEO for Finance and Administration, joined directors and senior management in extending a warm welcome to the Minister’s delegation.
The Minister was accompanied by prominent officials from the Ministry, including Ing. Sulemana Abubakar, Acting Director for Power; Dr. Yusif Sulemana, Technical Advisor; and Mr. Richmond Rockson, Esq., Spokesperson and Director of Communication.
The Petroleum Hub Project, situated in the Jomoro District of the Western Region, seeks to position Ghana as a premier downstream petroleum and petrochemical hub in West Africa — serving as a catalyst for industrialization, exports, and the transition to green energy.
