Cocoa farmers throughout the nation are planning a nationwide protest next week due to unpaid funds owed by the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) for cocoa beans delivered since November 2025.
The farmers assert that the prolonged delays in payments have led to significant financial distress, hindering their ability to meet essential needs such as healthcare and educational expenses.
In an interview, Francis Teinor, the President of the Mankrong Cocoa Cooperative Farmers Association, called on COCOBOD and government officials to take immediate action to settle the outstanding payments to prevent disruptions in the cocoa industry.
“The situation is severely impacting farmers; some are ill and wish to seek medical attention, but they lack the funds to visit a hospital. Do you want them to perish? The school year has commenced, and parents are eager to pay tuition fees.
“We also cannot store the cocoa as farmers lack the necessary storage facilities.
“As I speak, it has been approximately six weeks without any payments for cocoa farmers. This is critically affecting the industry. If the CEO of COCOBOD does not take action, he should prepare for a serious backlash next week. Farmers are dissatisfied, and if he is not cautious, we will take to the streets next week,” he stated.
