The Christian Council of Ghana has urged President John Dramani Mahama to reaffirm the government’s dedication to finalizing the National Cathedral, despite the significant economic challenges currently facing the nation.
During a courtesy visit to the Jubilee House on Tuesday, November 18, the Council recognized the tough economic conditions but emphasized that the cathedral, if completed within a transparent framework, would serve as a lasting spiritual and cultural symbol.
Rev. Enoch Thompson, Vice Chairman of the Council, stated, “While we acknowledge the existing economic hardships, we are convinced that the completion of the cathedral, under a transparent, accountable, and inclusive framework, would provide a spiritual and cultural landmark for future generations.”
The delegation presented three recommendations to the President: to reaffirm the government’s commitment to the project and ensure its progress; to establish a comprehensive funding structure that includes churches, the private sector, and international partners to alleviate the financial burden on the state; and to firmly establish the cathedral as a national, interdenominational initiative aimed at promoting unity among Ghanaians.
The Council expressed optimism that with renewed focus and enhanced oversight, the stalled project could restore public trust and move closer to its completion.
