Four individuals suspected of perpetrating robberies against residents and travelers in the Adansi region of the Ashanti Region were shot dead during a confrontation on the Bekwai-Fomena Highway.
These suspects, thought to be affiliated with a robbery gang, reportedly set up a roadblock and assaulted passengers traveling between Bekwai and Fomena.
In response to urgent calls for help, the police acted promptly and engaged the suspects in a violent exchange of gunfire.
As a result of the operation, four suspects were killed, while two others, who sustained gunshot injuries, managed to flee into a nearby forest.
Authorities have initiated a manhunt to capture the two escapees.
The police have stated that investigations are ongoing to reveal the complete circumstances surrounding the robbery and to identify the deceased suspects.
Residents, who have been living in fear due to an increase in highway robberies, have praised the police for their swift action.
The Ashanti South Police Command has confirmed the occurrence and announced that further details will be provided at a press conference scheduled for Monday, April 14.
