The Member of Parliament representing Garu, Dr. Thomas Anaba, has called upon all parties involved in the ongoing Bawku conflict to recognize the ruling of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, as the definitive mediation process, which is set to conclude on Monday, December 1, 2025, at the Manhyia Palace.
He expressed sorrow over the significant loss of lives, property, and resources that have occurred over the years, emphasizing that peace is the only viable path forward for the residents of Bawku.
The Asantehene, who has been appointed by the government to assist in finding a lasting resolution to the Bawku chieftaincy crisis, is anticipated to announce his final ruling today—an outcome that many hope will put an end to the prolonged tension and violence in the region.
In an interview conducted on Sunday, November 30, 2025, Dr. Anaba urged all stakeholders to accept the Asantehene’s declaration in good faith and to commit to restoring peace in the Bawku area.
He stressed that only through unity and acceptance of the ruling can sustainable development be achieved.
“There is little to anticipate other than peace in Bawku. We have invested many years, considerable resources, and lost lives and businesses due to this conflict. I understand that it is a challenging endeavor. President Nana Akufo-Addo entrusted this matter to the Asantehene, and President John Mahama also acknowledged his capability to manage it and allowed him to see it through. He has approached it with care, step by step, and has ultimately brought us to this juncture,” he stated.
Dr. Anaba further remarked that the Asantehene’s ruling should mark a new beginning for the region.
“What we hope for is that his announcement will usher in peace, allowing the government to adopt his recommendations and for everyone to adhere to their implementation fully. We will all find joy in our coexistence and live in harmony in Bawku, as we are fundamentally one community.
“We do not possess any significant differences—merely a minor misunderstanding regarding ownership that has led us to this point,” he noted.
He additionally requested a tranquil and effective resolution that would bring Bawku back to its former state of stability, flourishing commerce, and development.
