The Ghana Police Service has apprehended a woman in relation to the purported theft of a newborn at the Mamprobi Polyclinic in Accra, with the infant having been safely recovered.
The individual, reportedly disguised as a nurse, was recorded by the facility’s CCTV cameras as she carried the baby and exited the premises with what seemed to be a sack.
The video has since been widely shared on social media.
The event is reported to have taken place on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, shortly after the mother underwent a cesarean section. The baby was allegedly removed from the facility, causing alarm among staff and patients.
Authorities have confirmed that the suspect is in custody and is cooperating with the investigations. The successful recovery of the newborn has provided relief to the family and the community members.
