Former Finance Minister and Member of Parliament for Karaga, Mohammed Amin Adam, has publicly endorsed Paul Afoko for the role of National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, asserting that he is the ideal candidate to reposition the party in preparation for upcoming elections.
Dr. Amin Adam made this announcement during a visit by several NPP leaders and aspirants at his private residence, stating that his endorsement is rooted in Mr. Afoko’s competence and his capability to lead the party back to power.
“I support Paul Afoko for National Chairman,” Dr. Amin Adam declared.
He emphasized that, as the party currently finds itself in opposition, it requires experienced leadership to rebuild its structures and prepare it for the next general election.
“We recognize the serious individuals who can restore us to power. We do not simply follow the crowd in selecting whom to support; we endorse those we believe possess the potential to win and lead the party effectively,” he remarked.
Dr. Amin Adam clarified that his support for Mr. Afoko does not undermine his loyalty to the NPP’s presidential candidate for 2024, Mahamudu Bawumia.
He noted that Mr. Afoko’s leadership skills and fundraising capabilities render him particularly well-equipped to assist the party in recovering from its electoral loss.
“I have collaborated with Paul Afoko, and I can attest to his competence. He is also capable of raising funds for the party, which is essential for us as an opposition party,” he stated.
Mr. Afoko has been actively campaigning nationwide with what he calls a “3Rs Agenda”—reuniting, rebuilding, and returning the NPP to power.
His campaign has concentrated on mending the rifts that arose following the party’s electoral defeat in 2024 and the ensuing leadership conflicts, while also encouraging former members and supporters who have become inactive or departed from the party to return.
The former NPP national chairman has additionally committed to enhancing the roles of polling station executives, constituency executives, and grassroots members by improving their welfare, providing better logistical support, and increasing their participation in party decision-making.
He contends that strengthening the party’s grassroots will be crucial for revitalizing the NPP and returning it to power.
