The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has emphasized that the report regarding the mediation of the Bawku conflict ought to be obligatory for all parties concerned.
While presenting the mediation report to President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday, December 16, at the Jubilee House, as part of initiatives aimed at achieving enduring peace in the region, Otumfuo clarified that the process was a mediation effort rather than arbitration.
“I am here to present the facts as they exist for the sake of peace. I am not here to render a judgment on who was right or wrong. The report should be binding on all of us. I have communicated this to the various parties. It was mediation, not arbitration,” he remarked.
He expressed gratitude to the President for the trust placed in him to assist in resolving the protracted conflict.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was appointed earlier in 2025 by President Mahama to spearhead mediation efforts aimed at settling the long-standing chieftaincy dispute in Bawku.
The mediation process began in April 2025, with the Asantehene conducting separate consultations with representatives of the conflicting factions to foster dialogue.
Although the discussions were momentarily halted, they resumed in May 2025 and have since played a role in establishing a period of relative tranquillity in the conflict-affected municipality.
