The Member of Parliament representing Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, widely recognized as A Plus, has addressed a letter to the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, seeking the dismissal of Abena Osei Asare from her role as Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
In his correspondence to the Speaker, dated Monday, November 3, the MP articulated that his request aims to protect the integrity and dignity of Parliament, especially concerning the committee tasked with ensuring accountability in the management of public finances.
He pointed out that the matters currently under review by the Public Accounts Committee arose during the time when Abena Osei Asare held the position of Deputy Minister of Finance, which creates a conflict of interest regarding her role as Chair of the PAC.
“She cannot now turn around to demand answers from newly appointed officials on issues that happened under her own watch,” A Plus remarked, labeling the situation as “not just hypocrisy, but an insult to the intelligence of the Ghanaian people.”
Additionally, he contended that those who oversaw financial irregularities should not be permitted to judge them, emphasizing that the leadership of the committee must embody impartiality and integrity.
