Mustapha Gbande urges NDC supporters to refrain from confiscating state assets

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has issued a strong warning to its supporters, urging them to avoid the seizure or destruction of government properties that are purportedly misappropriated by members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

This caution comes in response to reports of unlawful actions involving the takeover and vandalism of state assets by individuals believed to be linked to the NDC.

In a statement released on December 11, Mustapha Gbande, the Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, called for calm and lawful behavior among party members. He underscored the importance of reporting any suspected instances of theft or mismanagement of government assets to the relevant authorities for appropriate investigation and action.

Gbande specifically addressed the party’s youth organizers and regional and constituency executives, encouraging them to take a leading role in preventing such activities.

He highlighted the necessity of adhering to due process during the transition period, advising that government officials associated with the NPP should not face harassment or obstruction in their responsibilities until the transition is finalized.

“Individuals affiliated with the NPP found in possession of government assets should be reported to the police, who will require justification for their possession, or the assets should be seized until further inquiries are conducted.

“Government appointees or NPP officials who are currently working with or holding government assets should remain undisturbed until the transition is complete, as the current government is still operational, and these officials should be allowed to fulfill their duties until a new government is established, regardless of their party affiliation.

Accessing government offices and facilities without a legitimate reason, such as job searching, must be avoided. It is imperative to prevent our youth from entering operational government properties in a manner that disrupts regular activities or causes disturbances until the transition period concludes. Additionally, it is crucial to ensure that no individual appropriates government resources, including consumables, fixtures, or relief items, without notifying the police, as this constitutes theft.

He also called upon party supporters to inform constituency and regional chairmen about any recruitment activities occurring post-election by certain agencies.

“Regarding post-election recruitment: please report any instances of this to your constituency and regional chairmen, who will take the necessary steps to inform the transition team for further guidance and action.”
