The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued a strong condemnation regarding an incident of electoral misconduct involving an officer from the Electoral Commission in Kintampo South.
The officer, named Joseph Dery, was detained for allegedly distributing ballot papers that excluded the name of the leading presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, during the election process.
This incident has provoked significant outrage among NPP members and their supporters, who perceive it as a deliberate effort to compromise the integrity of the electoral system.
As reported by the police, Joseph Dery was arrested after attentive polling station officials and party representatives raised alarms about irregularities in the ballot papers being distributed at his location.
In response to the alert, law enforcement acted swiftly to apprehend Dery.
During a press conference following the incident, Denis Miracles Aboagye, a spokesperson for the Bawumia Campaign, conveyed the party’s disappointment and reaffirmed its dedication to protecting Ghana’s democratic principles.
“The NPP demands the immediate prosecution of Joseph Dery, as his actions represent a calculated attempt to disenfranchise the Ghanaian populace and infringe upon their fundamental right to vote.
“Let it be known to anyone associated with the NDC who engages in such activities that we will identify you, as we have established a comprehensive system at every polling station to uncover any wrongdoing, regardless of the tactics employed.”
