2024 Polls: I will address the challenges at Ga State- Dr. Bawumia

The NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, if elected president, has promised to address the enduring issues confronting the Ga state, which are partly a result of its status as the country’s capital.

During his visit to the Ga Mantse’s palace on Thursday, November 28, Dr Bawumia highlighted important concerns such as land disputes, the decrease in the Ga language, and the issue of youth unemployment that need immediate focus.

He promised the Ga Mantse and the Ga people that he was dedicated to tackling these issues and offered solutions that would both boost development and protect the cultural heritage of the Ga state.

The rest of Ghana is influenced by the fact that the Ga state hosts the capital of Ghana. This has significant implications for the Ga state, which must be considered in policy-making.

The issue at hand is the implications that arise when land becomes a concern. The demand for land in this area is significantly greater than in any other part of the country. Indigenous peoples often struggle to access affordable land, posing a significant challenge that must be addressed.

Secondly, job opportunities are a pressing issue for the youth in this area. They are also concerned about access to quality education. There are limited opportunities for the youth in terms of schools, jobs, and language barriers. Many of us can survive without speaking Ga, so the language barrier is a significant issue for us here. This results in a deterioration of the language.

It is essential to prioritize teaching Ga in our schools in order to preserve the language and avoid incurring significant expenses. The Ga state has multiple land issues with the government that need to be addressed and resolved. As president, I can assure you that we will work together to find solutions to these issues that benefit you.

After signing the peace pact, Dr. Bawumia’s visit shortly followed, where he emphasized the NPP’s commitment to peaceful elections and enhancing Ghana’s democratic reputation.

Dr. Bawumia stressed the significance of receiving the backing and prayers of the chiefs and people of the Ga state as he pursues the presidency.

You have all witnessed the completion of the James Town Harbour, which will greatly benefit the fishing community. Our fishermen are encountering issues with premix fuel. I have come up with a new idea due to the widespread corruption in premix fuel distribution.

Switching from premix fuel to outboard motors powered by solar energy would be a beneficial transition. The outboard motors are powered by solar power. Our fishermen no longer need to purchase premix fuel. We successfully introduced the solar-powered outboard motors in Apam, kickstarting this innovative project.

On Wednesday, our plan is to travel to Tema and gather the chief fishermen to showcase the functionality of the solar-powered outboard motors for all to observe. I believe that fishermen will become wealthier because they will no longer have to spend a significant amount of money on fuel.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized his plan to offer solar-powered outboard motors that would help fishermen with their work.

Meanwhile, King Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse, warmly received the visit and expressed his gratitude, stating that the Ga people would cherish Dr. Bawumia made promises during his campaign to win the presidency.

Hosting the capital has presented its challenges, but I appreciate your discussion on possible solutions. We are aligned with your proposed solutions, so let’s work together to achieve them. On December 7, if the people of Ghana elect you, we are looking to establish a social contract with the Ga community. We also request that you prioritize the placement of Ga and Dangmes indigenes in key positions within your party to effectively represent our culture and identity.

” Bawumia was joined by Greater Accra Regional Minister Titus Glover, party officials, and Darkoa Newman, who is vying for the NPP parliamentary seat in Okaikoi South, the district where the palace is situated.
