Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reaffirmed the party’s decision to restructure its parliamentary leadership, brushing off any criticisms of the decision.
At the beginning of the year, the party made changes to its leadership by appointing new individuals to the positions of Tamale South MP Haruna Iddrisu, Ketu North MP James Klutse Avedzi, and Asawase MP Muntaka Mubarak as Minority Leader, Deputy Minority Leader, and Minority Chief Whip, respectively.
The decision prompted a range of reactions, with some criticizing its timing in light of the approaching 2024 general election.
Speaking to his supporters at a campaign rally in Ajumako Enyan Essiam in the Central Region on Thursday, November 21, Asiedu Nketiah explained that the recent leadership changes were made with the goal of improving the party’s performance in Parliament.
Despite initial criticism, Asiedu Nketiah continued to assert that the leadership restructuring had resulted in positive results for the party.
When we enacted the changes in Parliament, did you notice the criticisms that ensued? I was constantly singled out by everyone. Despite facing challenges, we remained steadfast in our support of the new leaders because we believed they offered a promising future.
Would you consider removing the new leaders we hired, or do you trust in their abilities since they have already shown their worth? We are grateful to God for allowing us to see clearly. The former leaders have completed their portion, as it was a team effort. Once an athlete becomes fatigued, they pass the baton to the next runner.
So, when we passed the baton to Ato Forson, he exceeded our expectations. We don’t have any regrets about it. “He said that he has made the party more appealing.
