The Parliament of Ghana, led by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. On the weekend of 25th to 27th October 2024, Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin will welcome delegates to the 2nd General Assembly of the Conference of Speakers and Presidents of African Legislatures (CoSPAL).
Established in 2020, CoSPAL serves as a platform for enhancing deliberation, collaboration, and cooperation among Speakers and Presidents of Parliaments and National Assemblies in Africa. The goal is to collectively tackle shared challenges, create joint strategies, and mobilize for the advancement of Africa’s development.
In May 2022, the 1st General Assembly took place in Abuja. The event was under the guidance of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila laid the foundation for the convergence of heads of African legislatures to address critical issues concerning post-COVID economic recovery and democratic development.
The 2nd General Assembly will unite approximately 120 attendees, consisting of fifteen (15) Speakers and Presidents of National Legislatures, along with 30 Deputy Speakers and Presidents, Clerks/Secretary Generals, and support staff from Parliaments and Assemble Nationales in Africa. The primary goal of the Conference is to, led by the Rt. As the current President of CoSPAL, the Hon Speaker of Parliament is focusing on strengthening the unity and collaboration among African legislatures, building upon the foundation laid during the 1st General Assembly.
The assembly marks an important milestone in improving legislative effectiveness and promoting regional solidarity to tackle common challenges throughout Africa.
The Ghanaian Parliament will not only be responsible for coordinating and leading the Conference but will also seize the opportunity presented by the 2nd General Assembly of CoSPAL to highlight Ghana’s unique democracy and renowned hospitality to our fellow African representatives. The conference will take place at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City.
