Joe Wise expressed his disappointment in the 8th Parliament, stating that they have achieved very little

Joseph Osei-Owusu, the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, has publicly expressed his strong dismay regarding the performance and behaviour of the Members of the 8th Parliament of Ghana.

Joe Wise, as he is commonly known, criticized the current parliamentary session in an interview with Citi News, stating that it lacks focus, is filled with controversies, and is not prioritizing its main duty of making laws.

Joe Wise believes that the 8th Parliament has not lived up to the legislative standards established by previous sessions and has ultimately disappointed.

Joe Wise expressed his disappointment with the 8th Parliament’s focus, noting that instead of prioritizing law-making, the House has been distracted by needless controversies.

The Deputy Speaker pointed out that there have been fewer laws passed during this parliamentary session compared to previous ones.

He pointed out that the 8th Parliament has noticeably produced very few laws, whether major or minor legislative instruments.

I must express my disappointment with the overall performance of the eighth Parliament. I previously mentioned that our legislative accomplishments have been minimal. Simply consider the number of laws and smaller legislations that have been passed. We have spent far too much time on trivial matters, insignificant things. Our primary responsibility is to create and enact legislation.

Compare the number of laws passed by the eighth Parliament in the last four years to those of previous Parliaments, and you will find that it has passed the fewest amounts.

There has been a lot of debate surrounding it. We used to sit down and discuss and overcome certain matters, but now we often resort to fighting instead, which is very disappointing to me.
