The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has revealed that the party would host a nationwide demonstration on September 17th against the Electoral Commission’s reluctance to conduct a forensic audit of the voter registration for the December elections.

Among other difficulties linked to the organization of the election, Mr Asiedu Nketiah stated that the NDC has not received any updates on the progress of investigations into individuals arrested for stealing several Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs).

He stated that a lack of information has stirred suspicions, making the demonstration imperative, among other concerns.

Speaking after the filing of nomination forms for their flagbearer, John Mahama at the Electoral Commission’s head office, Mr Nketia said, “Those of you who have been asking us what we would do if they did not comply, this is your answer: on the 17th of this month, the NDC is embarking on a massive nationwide demonstration in all 16 regional capitals.”

He asked members to visit Electoral Commission offices around the country and those in Accra to go to the headquarters to submit further petitions.

Mr. Nketiah stated that these petitions should urge that the Electoral Commission conduct itself in a way that ensures peaceful, free, and fair elections.
