The Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has announced the beginning of suspended elective surgeries from Tuesday, September 3, 2024, after a faulty elevator at the facility got fixed.
In an interview with newsmen, the hospital’s management reiterated plans for a total lift replacement with new ones due to the defective condition of the facility’s lifts.
The hospital suspended elective surgeries following a malfunction of the lift at the Surgical Department and focused solely on emergency cases.
On average, the hospital performs close to ten elective procedures every day, therefore the suspension left nearly 100 patients awaiting recall for their scheduled surgeries at the hospital.
The development drew a reaction from the general public, given that the hospital’s troubles with broken lifts persist.
The public relations officer for the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Mustapha Salifu, stated that all old lifts would be replaced by the first quarter of next year, admitting the impact on surgical services and emergency care.
