The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has urged Ghanaians to support mothers and children by promoting and encouraging breastfeeding.
The FDA in statement highlighted the numerous health benefits of breastfeeding for both infants and mothers. They emphasized the importance of creating a supportive environment to foster breastfeeding practices.
The statement added that breastfeeding provides essential nutrients and antibodies that protect infants from common childhood illnesses, promotes mother-child bonding, and enhances overall well-being.
However, it said that despite its many advantages, breastfeeding practices continue to encounter obstacles and inequalities, especially in marginalized and underserved communities.
“In spite of its numerous benefits, breastfeeding practices still face challenges and disparities, particularly in marginalized and underserved communities. Breastfeeding mothers in diverse spheres of life encounter social, psychological, and knowledge challenges,” the statement said.
The Authority also expressed gratitude for UNICEF’s support and partnership, acknowledging their joint efforts in creating safe spaces and improving conditions for mothers and children.
