The President of Republic of Ghana Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has sacked the Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, Charles Adu Boahen, with immediate effect over Anas Aremeyaw “GALAMSEY ECONOMY EXPOSE” terminated the appointment of Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance.

In a statement Monday 14th November, from the President, Communications Director Eugene Arhin said: “After being made aware of the allegations against the Minister during the ‘Galamsey Economy’ briefing, the President spoke with Mr. Adu Boahen, he subsequently decided to end his involvement and refer the case to the special prosecutor for further investigation.

He said the President thanked Mr. Adu Boahen for his active service to the government since his appointment in 2017 and wished him well in his future endeavors.

In the documentary by investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, Adu Boahen told undercover investigators that the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia only needed $200,000 as an appearance fee before meeting with investors. .

The minister also reported that the Vice President would request contracts from an investor for his siblings to gain his support and influence in setting up a business in Ghana.

“You mean, like court fees and all that?” I mean him, himself (VP), if you give him 200,000 (USD) or something like a token, as a thank you, appreciate it, that’s fine.

“He’s not really, he’s not really (like) that. All he needs is to worry about his 2020 campaign money,” said Charles Adu Boahen.
Before the end of Mr. Adu Boahen’s term, the Vice President in an earlier Facebook post called for his leadership.
Dr Bawumia denied the allegations and called for the minister’s immediate dismissal.

“My attention has been drawn to a video by Anas Aremeyaw Anas (as posted on his social media handle) showing the Minister of State for Finance, Mr Charles Adu Boahen, apparently using my name, inter alia, to peddle influence and collect money from supposed investors.

“I would like to state that if what the minister is alleged to have said is accurately captured in the video, then his position as a minister of state is untenable.

“He should be dismissed summarily and investigated,” he insisted.
