The Controller and Accountant-General, Kwasi Agyei, has announced that educators whose promotion documentation is validated after October 16 will receive their outstanding payments incorporated into their November compensation.
According to his statement, teachers whose promotions are confirmed and approved by October 16 will receive payment through a supplementary mechanism, whereas those whose documentation is finalized following that date will have their promotion-related compensation included in the November payroll.
“If by the 12th or 13th, that is next week, we’ll be done with the validation process, whatever has been validated, cleared by us, will be paid on or before 16th October,” he stated during an interview on Thursday, October 8.
“Then after 16th, whatever input forms and whatever process that is done is to be added into the November salary.”
The Controller-General’s Department is presently examining promotion records submitted by the Ghana Education Service (GES) to verify their alignment with the teachers’ payroll information before authorizing disbursements.
Mr Agyei reported that the GES had, by 2 p.m. on Thursday, processed 52,000 promotions within its system and submitted the necessary documentation for examination.
“As of 2 p.m., they have processed 52,000 promotions on the system. And they have submitted input forms,” he noted.
He clarified that the examination process was essential to validate the teachers’ updated classifications, commencement dates, and the compensation owed to them before fund disbursement.
The schedule emerges as teacher organizations continue their labor action regarding multiple grievances, encompassing promotion-related compensation, a suggested remote-area stipend, and the renewal of their employment agreement.
