A total of thirty-seven (37) detainees from the Nsawam Medium Security Prison have participated in the Teacher Licensure Examination as part of the Ghana Prisons Service’s comprehensive initiative to facilitate their rehabilitation through educational advancement.
These detainees, having completed their degree programmes, sat for the examination at the correctional facility on Monday, September 14, 2026.
According to an official statement released by the Ghana Prisons Service via Facebook on Tuesday, September 15, the examination was administered under rigorous oversight by two independent external invigilators, with supplementary assistance provided by Service personnel.
The Ghana Prisons Service said this programme is a core part of its strategic commitment to using education as a primary means of reforming, rehabilitating, and successfully reintegrating detainees into the broader community.
The Service further emphasized that allowing detainees to pursue education and obtain professional credentials would substantially enhance their capacity to secure sustainable, productive employment after their release from custody.
The engagement of the thirty-seven detainees in the Teacher Licensure Examination is anticipated to significantly advance their rehabilitation process by furnishing them with professional qualifications that would facilitate their pursuit of careers in education and other economically productive sectors.
