President John Dramani Mahama has spoken at the Free Primary Healthcare Programme Durbar held at the Ho Municipal Hospital, reiterating the Government’s dedication to enhancing access to quality healthcare.
This event was part of his two-day Resetting Ghana Tour in the Volta Region, which commenced on Thursday, July 16.
The President praised the management and staff of the Ho Municipal Hospital for their century of devoted service and acknowledged health professionals nationwide for their essential contributions to the care of Ghanaians.
President Mahama declared that “the Government has approved the recruitment of 16,000 nurses in two phases to bolster healthcare delivery, especially in underserved areas.”
He emphasized the Free Primary Healthcare Programme as a significant initiative towards achieving Universal Health Coverage, ensuring that Ghanaians can access primary healthcare services at CHPS compounds, health centres, and polyclinics without financial constraints.
The President also urged the public to engage in regular health screenings and maintain healthy lifestyles, highlighting the critical role of early detection in preventing severe illnesses.
Additionally, he outlined the government’s continuous investments in healthcare infrastructure, which include new cardiac centres, enhancements to the Ho Teaching Hospital, and the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (Mahama Cares), aimed at supporting patients with serious non-communicable diseases.
