The Ministry of Food and Agriculture has commenced the reception of requests from private agribusinesses eager to engage the newly trained Feed Ghana Brigadiers, even prior to the official deployment of the first cohort. This development is regarded by the government as a significant endorsement of the initiative.
During the passing-out ceremony for 506 Feed Ghana Brigadiers held at the National Police Training School in Tesano, the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, disclosed that agribusinesses have already approached the Ministry to seek the services of the graduates.
“I am pleased to announce that even before today’s passing-out ceremony, the Ministry has started receiving requests from agribusiness firms looking for the services of these brigadiers. One company has requested 20 brigadiers, while another has asked for two.”
The Minister emphasized that the early interest from the private sector highlights the increasing demand for skilled agricultural professionals who can support commercial farming and agribusiness operations.
“This early interest clearly illustrates the confidence that the private sector has in this initiative and the rising need for a disciplined, skilled, and dedicated agricultural workforce.”
Mr. Opoku stated that the Ministry will persist in recruiting and training more Feed Ghana Brigadiers to satisfy the growing demand from businesses and institutions, while also supporting the execution of the government’s flagship Feed Ghana Programme.
“The Ministry will therefore continue to train additional brigadiers to address this increasing demand and ensure their availability to any company, institution, or organization in need of their services.”
In addition to facilitating the implementation of the Feed Ghana Programme throughout the nation, the brigadiers will offer agricultural advisory and technical support services to private agribusinesses, households, educational institutions, public entities, and faith-based organizations. They are also anticipated to act as master gardeners, fostering household food production, enhancing nutrition, and promoting environmental stewardship.
The Minister highlighted that the current cohort of 506 agricultural graduates marks merely the initial phase of the initiative. As the programme progresses, the Ministry intends to recruit more graduates from Colleges of Agriculture and other accredited tertiary institutions to bolster agricultural extension and technical support services across the country.
He stated that the expanded recruitment initiative will enhance collaboration between the public and private sectors, widen access to agricultural advisory services, and generate employment opportunities for a greater number of young agricultural professionals.
The Feed Ghana Brigade is an integral component of the government’s comprehensive strategy to modernize agriculture, increase domestic food production, fortify agribusiness value chains, and create sustainable employment for the youth of Ghana.
