The Ghana Education Service (GES) has instructed students to refrain from attending the Accra Newtown Experimental D/A School due to the collapse of one of its buildings, which has tragically resulted in three fatalities and left twenty (20) individuals with serious injuries.
In an interview conducted on Monday, March 30, 2026, following a briefing with security officials at the school, the Director-General of GES, Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, stated that the service will hold an emergency meeting to decide on the subsequent actions to be taken.
Students have been advised to avoid the school until safety can be guaranteed.
“We are going to collaborate with the regional and national teams, and we will coordinate with the estate department to ensure that the remaining structure is indeed safe for use. If it is not, we will recommend that students avoid such areas,” Prof. Davis remarked.
The incident at the school has raised significant concerns regarding the safety of educational infrastructure in the region, leading to urgent evaluations aimed at preventing further disasters.
