Five candidates vying for the Ayawaso East parliamentary seat under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will undergo vetting today, Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
The candidates are Hajia Amina Adam (widow of the late MP Mahama Naser Toure), Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed (constituency chairman), Mohammed Ramme, Dr Yakubu Azindow, and Najib Mohammed Sani.
All candidates submitted their nominations on Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
The NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections, Tanko Computer, stated that the candidates will be vetted, followed by balloting, and an aggrieved committee will address any complaints to ensure smooth proceedings.
“We will be vetting all five candidates and then moving forward with the balloting. Following that, if any candidate has grievances, the aggrieved committee will convene to address those issues. There are four men and one woman.
“We want the committee to meet, if necessary, so that we can finalise the vetting and balloting process, and then proceed with the printing of the ballot papers for the Electoral Commission to conduct a primary for us on February 7, 2026,” he remarked.
The NDC primaries are scheduled for February 7, 2026.
In the meantime, the Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that it will hold the parliamentary by-election in the Ayawaso East Constituency on Tuesday, 3 March 2026.
