The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has formally sworn in Leslie Nkansah Osei Bonsu, the appointed nominee for the Asante Mampong Paramount Stool, on Monday, January 19, 2026, at the Manhyia Palace.
He was officially gazetted as the Asante Mamponghene and took on the stool name Daasebre Osei Bonsu III, thereby becoming the new Paramount Chief of Asante Mampong, following the oath-taking ceremony.
During the swearing-in ceremony, chiefs from various divisions of the Asante Kingdom urged the new Mamponghene to maintain peace, unity, and cooperation as essential pillars for the advancement of the Asante Mampong Traditional Council.
They also cautioned him to remain resolute against illegal mining activities on his territory, a position strongly advocated by his predecessor, the late Daasebre Osei Bonsu II.
The new Asante Mamponghene, Daasebre Osei Bonsu III, pledged to follow in the footsteps of his predecessor and to work diligently to foster development and stability in the traditional area.
He becomes the 17th holder of the Asante Mampong Silver Stool, a role considered second-in-command within the Asante Kingdom in the absence of the Asantehene.
Our news team engaged with several Traditional rulers following the swearing-in ceremony. They conveyed their confidence in the new chief’s leadership.
“We desire peace, unity, and development from him as he takes the throne. We have faith in him and are prepared to support him,” one of the queen mothers remarked.
The kingmakers of Asante Mampong, along with the Mampong Queen Mother, officially introduced Leslie Nkansah Osei Bonsu to the Asantehene as the nominated candidate for the Mampong throne on December 18, 2025.
