The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into a viral video in which American citizen Arianna Naomi Mackey alleges that she was kidnapped and robbed by five masked individuals impersonating police officers conducting snap-checks in Accra.
Preliminary findings from the CID show that Mackey and two associates were staying at a hotel in Accra, where the video was recorded. The group checked out on December 5, 2025, with Mackey departing Ghana through Kotoka International Airport on the same day.
The department confirmed that the group checked out of the hotel on December 5, 2025, and Mackey departed Ghana through Kotoka International Airport on the same day.
Efforts to obtain information from the alleged victim have been difficult thus far. Mackey reportedly informed the police that she was unable to provide the names of the supposed officers or the license plate of the vehicle involved.
Additionally, she refused to disclose the contact details of a friend who was allegedly present with her during the incident, citing her friend’s reluctance to engage in the investigation.
The CID also revealed that the video has been removed from Mackey’s social media account, and multiple attempts to contact her via WhatsApp calls and messages have been unsuccessful. Investigators are now working to obtain her cooperation through suitable diplomatic channels.
Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, the Public Relations Officer of the CID, stated that the Ghana Police Service takes such allegations very seriously and is dedicated to uncovering the truth regarding the incident.
