The Ministry of the Interior has initiated two distinct investigations in response to allegations that Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng survived two assassination attempts and that a senior official from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) was assaulted by police officers.
The allegations first emerged when Samuel Appiah Darko, the OSP’s Director of Strategy, Research, and Communications, stated during the Newsfile programme in Accra on December 6 that Mr. Agyebeng had been the target of two unsuccessful assassination attempts while carrying out his official responsibilities.
Darko further claimed that he had been handcuffed and assaulted by 17 police officers.
In a press release dated Monday, December 8, the Ministry noted that while these claims have serious implications for national security, they also pose a risk to the government’s efforts to enhance anti-corruption initiatives. Consequently, the Ministry has commenced preliminary investigations.
According to the Ministry, initial discussions with Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng indicated that the alleged assassination attempts reportedly took place prior to 2025. Furthermore, security agencies and police stations nationwide have no records of any threats reported by the Special Prosecutor.
In light of the seriousness of these allegations, the Minister for the Interior has mandated a comprehensive investigation into both issues. The first inquiry will concentrate on the purported assassination attempts against Mr. Agyebeng, with the Ministry emphasizing that crimes of this nature do not have a statute of limitations. A second investigation will look into Mr. Appiah Darko’s claim of being assaulted by several police officers.
The Ministry has assured the public that the results of the investigations will be disclosed upon completion and has reiterated its commitment to protecting all individuals within the nation. It stressed that every Ghanaian should be able to conduct their lawful activities without fear for their safety.
