The government is placing a high priority on inclusive digital growth for the upcoming year, with a significant initiative aimed at equipping vulnerable consumers with employable technology skills. This includes the announcement of 50,000 fully funded training slots for individuals with disabilities as part of the One Million Coders Programme.
This initiative coincides with the Communications and Digital Technology Ministry’s intensified efforts to enhance the accessibility and affordability of digital services in response to the increasing demand for online business and public services.
During the celebration of the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Communications Minister Samuel Nartey George presented a series of strategies designed to promote accessibility and alleviate the financial burden on consumers.
“We will enhance accessibility standards. We will implement accessibility measures across all government digital platforms, ensuring adherence to international standards such as the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. Additionally, we will work towards improving affordability and accessible communication,” he stated.
He further mentioned that the government is collaborating with the NCA and telecommunications operators to enhance service accessibility and industry support. “In partnership with the NCA and our telecom collaborators, we will seek concessionary data options, establish accessible customer service channels, and encourage industry stakeholders to invest in inclusive technologies.”
“Under the guidance of the Ministry for Gender, Children and Social Protection, as we launch the One Million Coders programme next year, we will allocate 50,000 fully funded training slots specifically for individuals with disabilities. This initiative will not only be implemented in Accra and Kumasi but will also ensure equitable regional distribution.”
