The Constitution Review Committee (CRC) has announced that it is progressing towards delivering its draft report regarding the review of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution to President John Dramani Mahama within the upcoming month.
“We are diligently working to finalize the draft report, and we anticipate presenting it to the President by the end of September or early October,” confirmed Dr. Rainer Akumperigya, the CRC’s Secretary, during an interview with Daily Graphic.
The draft report is the result of several months of consultations with significant stakeholders, including the Council of State and the Trades Union Congress (TUC).
Concerns raised throughout this process encompassed limiting presidential terms, diminishing the powers of the Presidency, electing MMDCEs, and amending the stipulation that ministers must be appointed from Parliament.
Dr. Akumperigya emphasized that the submission of the report will not signify the conclusion of the committee’s responsibilities, as it will still need to provide clarifications to Parliament and assist in the implementation phase.
