Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has extended his congratulations to all five candidates who have successfully submitted their nominations to participate in the upcoming presidential primaries of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The Presidential Elections Committee of the NPP previously confirmed that five candidates had completed and filed their nomination forms. The candidates are:
1. Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong
2. Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong
3. Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong
4. H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
5. Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum
The internal elections of the party are set to take place on Saturday, January 31, 2026, to select a flagbearer for the general elections in 2028.
In a Facebook post dated Thursday, August 28, the Member of Parliament for Effutu commended the candidates for taking what he referred to as a significant step towards enhancing our internal democracy and reinforcing the traditions of the party.
“I would like to offer my heartfelt congratulations to all five (5) Presidential Aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP: Development in Freedom) who have successfully filed and submitted their nomination forms,” he stated.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin also urged the candidates and their supporters to emphasize unity and respect during the campaign period.
“As we transition into the next stage of the process, I encourage all candidates and their supporters to carry out their campaigns with decorum, unity, and mutual respect,” he remarked.
“Let us steer clear of divisive behaviors and stay focused on the larger objective of strengthening the NPP and promoting our national development.”
He concluded the post by referencing the party’s symbol, stating: “Indeed, the ELEPHANT is a winning symbol!”
