The World Bank has pledged its support to Ghana in addressing the issue of youth unemployment by endorsing a new Growth and Jobs Strategy aimed at generating opportunities for over 500,000 young individuals entering the workforce each year.
This announcement came after a high-level meeting at the World Bank headquarters, where the Bank’s Managing Director of Operations, Anna Bjerde, met with Ghana’s Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson (MP).
The two officials deliberated on plans to work together on the development and execution of the strategy, which emphasizes job creation, skills enhancement, and inclusive economic growth.
‘This initiative embodies our mutual commitment to creating opportunities for young people,’ stated Bjerde. ‘We take pride in collaborating with Ghana on a strategy that will generate employment and foster a more robust and resilient economy.’
Dr. Forson expressed gratitude for the support, highlighting the necessity of decisive and targeted measures to tackle the increasing number of job seekers.
‘This partnership represents a significant advancement in our mission to provide decent and sustainable employment for our youth,’ he remarked.
