The Spiritual Leader of the Prophets and Spiritual Churches Council, Ghana and also Nkosuohene for Onamroko Adain family of the Greater Accra region, Nakoa Prophet Nazareth Ansah Jamson, has called for a ceasefire in the ongoing conflict between the Kusasis and Mamprusis at Bawku in the upper East region.
He reminded them that development cannot take place in Bawku when there is conflict. Nakoa Prophet Nazareth Ansah Jamson made this call during the celebration of its annual Passover Festival in Accra. He noted that the mediation process initiated by the Asantehene, which will bring all key stakeholders together to find lasting solution to the conflict remains the best way.
Nakoa Prophet Nazareth Ansah Jamson urged, the youth and traditional leaders to collaborate with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II for a lasting solution. Nakoa Prophet Nazareth Ansah Jamson expressed confidence in traditional authorities’ ability to help combat illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey.
He highlighted the influential role of traditional leaders in their communities, emphasising their crucial role in the fight against galamsey as he lamented that chiefs currently lack the power to take direct action against illegal miners operating in their jurisdictions. He noted that some illegal miners secure permits from government agencies, leaving chiefs powerless despite the destruction in their communities.
He called for an amendment to Section 63(B) of the Minerals and Mining Act to empower chiefs in the fight against illegal mining. Nakoa Prophet Nazareth Ansah Jamson urged youth to avoid drug addiction and prioritize their education to improve their prospects and capitalize on potential job opportunities.
He emphasized the need for teachers especially to educate their students about the harmful effects of drug addiction, stressing that it is a critical time for collective action.
