President John Dramani Mahama has revealed intentions to convene a National Constitutional Review Validation Conference, which aims to advance the currently stalled constitutional review process.
This initiative reflects the new NDC administration’s dedication to enhancing Ghana’s justice system and ensuring the independence of the judiciary.
During his address at the 92nd Jalsa Salana of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Ghana, held in Gomoa Pomadze, Winneba, on Thursday, January 9, 2025, President Mahama underscored the significance of justice and peace as fundamental to the nation’s goals.
“Justice and peace form the foundation of our national aspirations, and as the Holy Quran instructs us, we are obligated to uphold justice, even when it is against our own interests… Justice must not only be executed but must also be perceived and experienced by all. It serves as a moral compass that should guide our decisions, laws, and interactions within our society,” he articulated.
The President also pointed out the administration’s commitment to rectifying systemic disparities within the justice system.
“In this regard, the new NDC administration is firmly dedicated to fortifying our justice system to ensure judicial independence and to tackle the systemic inequalities that persist. I assure you that this administration will diligently strive to guarantee that every Ghanaian, irrespective of their status or background, is treated with respect and granted equal protection under the law,” he stated.
To facilitate these goals, President Mahama announced the formation of a committee tasked with organizing the National Constitutional Review Validation Conference.
“To realize our objective of justice, it is imperative that we advance the stalled constitutional review process. Therefore, I will soon establish a committee to initiate the planning of a National Constitutional Review Validation Conference, aimed at achieving a broad consensus on the proposed constitutional amendments,” he declared.
