Three students have been arrested in connection with the assault on a student from Obrachire Senior High Technical School during a district inter-schools athletics competition and are scheduled to be brought before the court.
The individuals involved, Joseph Amoh, 20; Benedict Appiah, 18; and Bilal Mamud, 18, were apprehended following a violent confrontation between students of Obrachire Senior High Technical School and the Swedru School of Business in Agona Swedru.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, February 24, the Central Regional Police Command denounced the behavior of the students, warning the public, especially students, against participating in violent acts that jeopardize safety within educational institutions.
The police revealed that the arrests were made after high-level discussions between the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, and the management of Swedru School of Business.
“At approximately 9:00 pm on the same day, the authorities from Swedru School of Business presented three suspects, all students from the aforementioned school, to the Swedru Divisional Police Command,” the statement indicates.
In the meantime, the Ghana Education Service Central Regional Directorate has ordered the immediate suspension of all zonal inter-school sporting events among Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) in the region, pending the results of the investigations.
