The Greater Accra Regional Hospital management has confirmed that a security officer on duty was assaulted at the facility.
In a press release issued on February 20, 2026, the hospital announced that the incident occurred on February 18 at approximately 7:28 p.m. in the Labour Ward. The security guard was allegedly assaulted by an 18-year-old male named Gabriel Dimson, who had come to the hospital with his mother and a friend.
According to management, the security officer instructed the suspect to proceed to the reception area, as hospital policy prohibits visitors from standing at the ward entrance outside designated visiting hours.
The suspect reportedly refused to comply with this directive and subsequently pushed the officer to the ground, physically assaulting him. The officer is said to have lost consciousness and was promptly attended to by the medical staff on duty. He is currently hospitalized and is reportedly responding well to treatment.
The incident was reported to the Ghana Police Service at the Adabraka District Police Command. The suspect has been apprehended, and the police are currently assisting with the investigation and forthcoming prosecution.
The hospital management has made it clear that it will not tolerate any form of violence against its personnel, highlighting the essential role that security officers play in enforcing hospital policies aimed at safeguarding patients, visitors, and healthcare professionals.
Furthermore, the hospital has urged the public to cooperate with staff and strictly follow established visiting protocols to maintain a safe and orderly healthcare environment.
The statement was signed by Juliana Haruna, Head of Public Relations.
