The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has declared that the upcoming round of police recruitment will give precedence to Community Protection Assistants (CPAs), also referred to as Community Police, following a consensus with the Ghana Police Service.
This announcement was made during the graduation ceremony of 955 CPAs at the Ashanti Regional Police Training School in Kumasi, which is part of the YEA initiative.
The CPA training program, initiated by YEA, is designed to offer meaningful employment opportunities for young individuals while enhancing community policing across the nation.
While addressing the new graduates on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, Habib Kipo, the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation at YEA, encouraged them to uphold discipline, diligence, and a commitment to fostering peace and order within their communities. He emphasized that CPAs would be prioritized in future police recruitment efforts, as they already possess fundamental policing skills and practical experience.
“In our efforts to create sustainable employment, our CEO, Malik Basintale, along with the Minister of the Interior and our sector minister for Youth and Employment, has requested the Police Command and the Inspector-General of Police to prioritize our dedicated trainees in future recruitment.
“These young men and women have undergone training in basic policing and the principles of law enforcement, making them well-suited for integration into mainstream policing. This is the goal we are all striving to achieve,” Mr. Kipo stated.
