Family of Acid Attack Victim Demands Justice as Trial Nears
The family of the late Daniel Omane is calling for justice following his tragic death on July 25, 2025, at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital—months after suffering severe burns from an acid attack.
Daniel was reportedly attacked while asleep in his room on November 29, 2024. His girlfriend and mother of his child, Vera Asare, is accused of carrying out the act. The couple had a rocky relationship, often marred by arguments and jealousy. Investigators say tensions escalated after Omane decided to end the relationship.
On the night of the incident, Vera allegedly entered his room and poured acid on him while he slept. His screams alerted neighbors, who rushed to his aid and handed her over to the police. He was first treated at the Eastern Regional Hospital before being transferred to Korle Bu, where he battled for months before passing away.
Vera was initially arrested and later granted bail to care for their young daughter. However, following Omane’s death, she was re-arrested and now faces upgraded charges, including murder. The case has since been taken over by the Eastern Regional State Attorney, Emily Addo-Kyereh.
Public interest in the case continues to grow. At her last court appearance, family, friends, and sympathizers flooded the courtroom in Koforidua wearing T-shirts bearing Omane’s image, demanding full accountability.
The Koforidua High Court is set to begin the full criminal trial on October 13, 2025.
