Alhaji Sofo Azorka, the First National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), is set to appear in court on September 16, 2025. He faces allegations of assaulting Alhaji Masawudu Osman, the Third Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), during the Akwatia by-election.
The police announced in a statement on September 12, 2025 that Azorka was arrested on Wednesday, September 10 in Tamale and caution statement were obtained from him. His arrest follows investigations by the police into an alleged assault on Alhaji Masawudu Osman at Akwatia.
According to the police, Azorka has been released on bail to report to the Eastern South Regional Police Command in Kyebi on September 16, 2025 at 10am where he will appear before the court.
The Police assured the public of thorough investigations into the matter and entreated all to remain calm as further development shall be communicated.
