Renowned rap artist Sarkodie has ignited extensive discussion by voicing his support for former President John Dramani Mahama’s call for an economic transformation in Africa.
Sarkodie, who has often been viewed as critical of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), utilized social media to express his backing for Mahama’s anti-colonialism campaign.
This declaration followed Mahama’s impactful speech advocating for Africa’s autonomy over its natural resources, highlighting the historical exploitation experienced during colonial and neo-colonial periods.
In his remarks, Mahama emphasized the continent’s preparedness—equipped with sufficient human capital, technological advancements, and access to global financing—to manage its resources independently of foreign concessions.
‘We have cultivated a strong foundation of human resources… we possess the technology… the capital is accessible,’ Mahama stated, calling for a transition from foreign exploitation to local ownership and benefits.
Sarkodie’s support for Mahama’s message surprised many, especially considering his earlier songs and remarks that criticized the NDC’s administration, including the Dumsor crisis during Mahama’s presidency.
Nevertheless, his tweet indicates a potential shift towards prioritizing national interests and economic independence over partisan politics.
The rapper’s statement has elicited mixed responses online, with some commending his impartiality while others question his political affiliations.
