The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Johnson Asiama, emphasized that maintaining the value of the Cedi is a collective responsibility involving all Ghanaians, not just one institution.
In his address at the Currency Anniversary Conference in Accra on November 18, 2025, during the Cedi@60 celebrations, Dr. Johnson Asiama asserted that all Ghanaians play a crucial role in strengthening confidence in the national currency and supporting the country’s economic stability.
He indicated that safeguarding the Cedi extends beyond monetary policy and regulatory measures, encompassing the daily actions and mindsets of citizens, businesses, and institutions.
While articulating his vision for the currency, Dr. Asiama expressed: “It is my aspiration that every Ghanaian—from the child learning to count, to the trader serving her community, to the entrepreneur creating something new—can continue to hold the Cedi with steadfast confidence and pride.”
He reaffirmed the stability of the currency as a shared responsibility.
“Let us always bear in mind that protecting the Cedi is not the duty of any single institution,” he remarked. “It is a collective effort—an effort grounded in our faith in Ghana’s future.”
Dr. Asiama reiterated the central bank’s dedication to policies that foster monetary stability, but he pointed out that enduring confidence in the Cedi necessitates collective discipline, responsible economic conduct, and national unity.
