AEK Athens Struggling to Offload Anthony Martial Due to High Wages – Report
Greek club AEK Athens is reportedly working hard to part ways with former Manchester United striker Anthony Martial, according to French outlet FootMercato.
The club is said to have offered the French forward to at least six clubs in Mexico, including PUMAS, in a bid to move him on. Martial, who also previously played for AS Monaco, has struggled to make an impact in Athens.
The main stumbling block, however, appears to be his hefty salary. Martial reportedly earns €2.5 million net per year, a figure that’s proving difficult for potential suitors to match — and a major obstacle for AEK in their efforts to clear him from the wage bill.
AEK are now exploring all possible options to resolve the situation as they look to reshape their squad ahead of the new season.
29 year old Martial left Man United for Athens in the 2024-2025 season and has registered nine goals and two assists in 24 games in all competitions.

Martial even made an appearance for AEK Athens this season, coming off the bench to play 32 minutes in their Europa Conference League qualifier against Israel’s Hapoel Be’er Sheva.
Much like his spell at Manchester United, Martial has struggled with consistency and fitness at AEK Athens, with recurring injuries causing him to fall out of favour at the club.

Regarded as one of the world’s best young players after excelling at Monaco, Martial has missed out on meeting those lofty expectations.
