The Acting Chief Executive Officer of COCOBOD and experienced broadcaster, Dr. Randy Abbey, has initiated a defamation lawsuit against the outspoken politician and NPP Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, who is commonly referred to as Abronye DC.
The lawsuit, which was filed on August 26, 2025, demands GHS 20 million in damages, which Dr. Abbey claims is warranted due to false, malicious, and defamatory remarks made by Abronye during a public broadcast.
Court documents indicate that Abronye accused Dr. Abbey of misusing public resources and participating in corrupt activities in his capacity at COCOBOD.
The allegations, made during a broadcast and disseminated on social media, asserted that Dr. Abbey utilized state resources — including several Land Cruisers — to transport a personal chair from Accra to cocoa farms for visits, purportedly because he refused to use chairs provided by farmers.
Additionally, Abronye accused Abbey of manipulating internal appointments to facilitate the embezzlement of public funds.
The legal action, brought forth by COCOBOD’s Legal Department, outlines multiple claims, including that the statements have harmed Abbey’s reputation and subjected him to public ridicule and contempt. The lawsuit seeks:
– A declaration that Abronye’s statements are defamatory
– A complete retraction and an unqualified apology to be published across all platforms
– The removal of all defamatory content from the internet
– General, punitive, and compensatory damages amounting to GHS 20 million
– A perpetual injunction to prevent any further defamatory publications
– Legal costs and any other relief that the court may find appropriate

Randy Abbey maintains that the allegations are completely unfounded and intended to damage his well-established professional reputation.
His legal team stresses that public discourse should be based on truth and accountability, particularly when it concerns individuals in positions of public trust.
Currently, Abronye has not publicly responded to the lawsuit.
In a similar vein, Hugh Clement A. Brown, who serves as the Acting Chief Executive Officer of Ghana’s Forestry Commission, initiated a defamation lawsuit in July of this year against Kwame Baffoe, commonly referred to as Abronye DC, the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, seeking damages amounting to GH¢20 million.
