President John Mahama, along with his cabinet members, convened with Mr. Sunny Verghese, Group Co-Founder and Group CEO, as well as senior executives from Olam Agri and OFI (Olam Food Ingredients), during their official visit to Singapore last week. The purpose of this meeting was to explore opportunities for maximizing their partnership and ensuring food security in Ghana.
The meeting, held at Olam’s Headquarters, underscores Olam Agri’s dedication to collaborating closely with the public sector to bolster Ghana’s food security and socioeconomic development.
In attendance were Mr. Verghese, the Group Operating Officer, Mr. Neelamani Muthukumar, the Global Head of Processing & Value-Added, Mr. Saurabh Mehra, the Ghana Country Head, Mr. Baibhav Biswas, and the Ghana Head of Finance, Raghav Mandhana.
Also present were Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry in Ghana.
Since its establishment in Ghana in 1994, Olam Agri has transformed from a trading entity into a fully integrated food processing company within the country.
The company’s operations encompass sourcing, processing, packaging, and distribution, ensuring the reliable delivery of quality food products throughout Ghana and West Africa.
Olam Agri’s core operations in Ghana include its Grains and Rice sectors. The company’s flour milling facility is recognized as one of the most advanced in the nation, providing high-quality wheat flour to industrial bakeries, SMEs, and households.
Furthermore, Olam Agri is in the process of establishing Ghana’s first-ever pasta production facility, which is expected to fulfill the country’s total pasta demand in the future.
In the rice sector, Olam Agri plays a pivotal role in the local rice value chain, with its Mama Gold Jasmine rice becoming one of Ghana’s premier local rice brands.
Through strategic collaborations with over 4,000 local farmers and numerous processing units across key rice-producing regions, Olam Agri is already making a substantial contribution to national food security and rural economic development.
Furthermore, with around 95% of its workforce being Ghanaian, Olam Agri was acknowledged as a preferred employer for the fourth consecutive year in 2024 by the Top Employer Institute.
